Rehabilitation is not obedience training

Training teaches behaviors: sit, walk without pulling, come when called. Rehabilitation changes emotional states. A dog that barks out of insecurity, bites out of fear or destroys the house out of anxiety doesn’t need more commands – it needs to regain its balance. First we lower the emotion (fear, frustration, over-arousal), then we build new behaviors.
